Gray Arena Site Survey - Round 2

Municipal staff are asking for your feedback regarding the potential re-development of the Gray Arena Site and the 4 proposed re-development options. The survey will be available until 11:59 p.m., Friday, September 19th, 2025. The feedback obtained from the survey will assist Municipal staff in writing a recommendation report to HRM Regional Council regarding the future of the Gray Arena Site.

In accordance with Section 485 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA), any personal information collected in this survey will only be used by municipal staff and, if necessary, individuals and/or organizations under service contract with the Halifax Regional Municipality for purposes relating to processing the Gray Arena site survey results. If you have any questions about the collection and use of your personal information, please call 311 or email contactus@311.halifax.ca.

Gray Arena Site Re-development Options:

As part of the objectives of the re-development program, Municipal staff and FBM have created 4 re-development options for the Gray Arena Site. It should be noted that these re-development options do not show specific detailed designs and are intended to illustrate preliminary development concepts and potential land use by-law and zoning changes to the Gray Arena Site. These 4 re-development options have been provided below:

Option 1 - The existing arena is maintained and enhanced to meet current building and energy codes, and to improve accessibility. Outdoor space is maintained and enhanced. 


Option 2 - The existing arena is maintained and enhanced to meet current building and energy codes, and to improve accessibility. Space is added to the arena to accommodate additional community programs. Outdoor space is maintained and enhanced. 


Option 3 - The existing arena is maintained and enhanced to meet current building and energy codes, and to improve accessibility. Space is added to the arena to accommodate additional community programs. Outdoor space is maintained and enhanced. Also, a portion of the site is redeveloped to accommodate housing and commercial spaces.


Option 4 - The existing arena is demolished, and the entire site is redeveloped to provide housing and commercial uses in new mid-rise buildings. Future recreation investments would be concentrated at other indoor recreation facilities and surrounding parks.
