The Project

The Halifax Regional Municipality is engaging on the parkland planning for the parks located in the Indigo Shores subdivision in Middle Sackville. The Indigo Shores subdivision is comprised of new housing that has been established over the past several years, and new lots that are currently planned or under development. As part of the 2022/23 Parks and Recreation Business Plan, municipal staff are engaging on the development of a parkland plan for Indigo Shores. The plan will guide the development of future park facilities such as playgrounds, outdoor sport facilities, trails, and access to McCabe Lake. The plan will determine suitable park uses for each of the parks and guide future park improvements. Once a plan is adopted, a phased approach to implementation would be considered in subsequent years during the Municipal Budget and Business Planning Process. Detailed designs would be the next steps to fine tune program areas. Parks benefit from having a plan, so as resources become available, features can be implemented.

The Park Sites

Indigo Shores is a residential subdivision on the north side of McCabe Lake in Middle Sackville, accessed from the Margeson Drive interchange off Highway 101. There are six municipal parks within the Indigo Shores subdivision, with a seventh park to be acquired through the subdivision process for next phase of housing now under development. To date, only one of the park parcels, “Unnamed Park 23”, has been developed and has a parking lot, seating areas, and trails to access to McCabe Lake and Sackville River.
